How are Magnets Used in Microwaves?

Imagine that you’ve had a long day at work, and afterwards you hop in your car and blast your favorite song, then return home to toss your favorite frozen dinner in the microwave. Believe it or not, but all of this wouldn't be possible without magnets. The magnetron is incredibly versatile and does far more than you might think. From Microwave ovens to radar navigation & radios, magnets play a major part in our day-to-day lives and future development. Microwaves Use “The Magnetron” to Heat Your Food

Have you ever wondered what the magic behind a microwave is? You are hungry and in a time crunch and don’t want to take the time and effort of cooking food on the stove or in the oven, so you can simply put it in the microwave and in a matter of minutes or even seconds you have hot food that is ready to be eaten; how is this possible? Well, it’s not so much magic as it is magnets. Magnet products are versatile, and are used for so many things, including our kitchen microwaves.  The Magnetron, also called a cavity magnetron, is a vacuum tube and is a very high-powered tool that generates microwaves, which come across as heat. Microwaves are unseen, highly charged, short-wavelength radio waves that move at the speed of light.

A magnetron is an instrument that generates radio waves by energizing a small wire called the cathode filament. As the filament warms it emits negatively charged electrons. The rise and fall of the charges produce an electromagnetic field. This in turn is how the microwave oven guides electrons to heat food. Most foods contain water molecules. Each molecule of H2O has a positively and negatively charged end that the microwave used to heat food. Are Microwaves Safe to UseAre Microwaves Safe to Use?

For nearly seventy years, microwaves have been a standard in household kitchens. For some people, this is their main source for heating up their food and preparing meals. The good news is that because of its relatively small and condensed physical size, microwave radiation is not able to exit the open cavity. Unlike water or gas, waves cannot leak from the device even if the door was not there due to the placement of the metal within the device that forms a grid. While microwaves use electricity and therefore can still potentially be dangerous like any other electronic, they are safe when used properly.
